A commonplace book is a notebook for recording things you come across from your research and things you learn on the daily. Very common in the 17th and 18th centuries, commonplace books are an easy way to organize quotes, new vocabulary, articles, and other fun facts.
I started two commonplace books at the end of last year. One is more practical. The other one is where I practice my calligraphy with my fancier inks.
Since I started, I have been preaching the gospel of commonplacing. It improves my memory of articles and books that I’ve read. It improves my vocabulary. It improves my life.
